The Hibs are back on the road this weekend when we travel to the capital to face Craigroyston.
Our opponents were idle last weekend as their South Challenge Cup tie against Thorniewood United was postponed. In their last outing (14th November), a late goal from Gavin Pettigrew secured all three points against Edinburgh United. Netting the other goal that day was forward Rees Smith who is one of the leading scorers in our division.
Craigroyston were founded in 1976 and joined the East of Scotland League. They did, however, play in the East Region of the SJFA for a couple of seasons (2016/17 and 2017/18), before returning to the EoSFL.
It will therefore come as no great surprise to learn that the sides have never met on a competitive basis, but we have come together once in a pre-season friendly. This was on 27th July 1996 when we drew 3-3 in Edinburgh.
John Szaranek scored his first goal after signing from a local side, and Konrad Fielmar (making his debut after being signed from Glenrothes Strollers U21's) scored with a 25 yard ‘reeker’. Allan Davie got the other goal after being set up by Robert Sellar; another close season signing who played for Kirkcaldy YM U21 and the Fife U21 representative side the previous season.
Manager Craig Gilbert will be looking to build on last Saturday’s excellent result in the South Challenge Cup as we attempt to climb the league table again after an inconsistent start.
